Things learnt while sick
- An optimistic mindset beats antibiotics every time.
- Your body isn’t a machine.
- There’s always a cause. For me it was weeks of really long workdays.
- Being sick is the perfect excuse to do nothing, except for what you want. Sleep, Lego, TED-talks and movies are awesome. Even on holiday I couldn’t disconnect from work the way I did in the past 3 days.
- Clients understand.
- You should build a better fall-back for cashflow. The flu is just one thing, but what if you get into an accident, and aren’t able to work for a month? Are you prepared for that?
- Being sick supercharges you. That underpaid project you agreed to do, but keep putting off? Done! Bring it on!
- Grandma’s fresh tomato-soup and hot chocolate milk are the best things on earth.
- Clients understand.
- You should really quit smoking.

Those are all true for me as well, except for the very last one (never started). Being sick allows me to relax, watch movies, and blog a little. Blogging and hot chocolate are perfect for those sick days.
